Marcus Fabius Quintilianus
Latin in full Marcus Fabius Quintilianus (b.c AD 35 – d after AD 96) Latin teacher and rhetoric.
Although born in nothern Spain, Quintilian was educated in Rome.
Whilst teaching under 3 emperors (Vespasion, Titus and Domitian) Quintilian was granted the honorary title of consul for his work within education and his great work on rhetoric "Institution oratoria".
He wrote about the 5 traditional "departments" of rhetoric: invention, arrangement, style, memory and delivery, with a chapter devoted to the art of arousing laughter.
Quintilian always remained conscious of the fact that
"…theoretical knowledge alone is of little use without experience and good judgement."
